Before assuming that anything is wrong which requires the removal of caliper pistons make sure that the checks in connections with renewal of the friction pads have been carried out.

Discs may be deteriorated, if left unused, due to corrosion. If this happens it is best to let a VW agency repolish them with special blocks which can be inserted in place of the friction pads. Discs which are badly scored or distorted must be renewed. It is possible to have them remachined but the economics of this against fitting new parts should be examined.
