The US Automaker produced Chevrolet Malibu as a mid-size car and marketed in the Canada, United States, Brazil, Middle East, and Mexico. In 1997, a new front-wheel drive Chevy Malibu was introduced. It is based on an extended wheelbase version of the GM N platform shared with Buick Skylark, Oldsmobile Achieva, Oldsmobile Alero, and Pontiac Grand Am. The Chevy Malibu itself replaced the compact Chevrolet Corsica. Power came from a 2.4 L 150 hp (112 kW) I4 or 3.1 L 155 hp (116 kW) V6. In 1997, the Motor Trend marked Chevy Malibu as the magazine’s car of the year.
